Conference during the French Presidency of the Council, Paris – November 27th & 28th 2008

Stefano Tirati and Giovanni Crisonà, in representation of the Europemobility team, have been invited to take part within this important conference, promoted by the French Presidency of the European Council, focused on promoting the integration and expansion of mobility within the European Vocational Training System.

The conference was based on the main outcomes of the MoVe-IT Study, which is also the main basis of our Europemobility initiative.
European mobility in training pathways contributes widely to the development of European citizenship, as well as to the acquisition of vocational and personal skills.

However, European mobility in work-based initial vocational training (IVT) is still rather low. According to a recent study the average number of IVT participants actually going on a transnational placement does not exceed 1% in most countries.

These considerations have led the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union to stress european mobility in training pathways as one of its major stakes.

The conference organized by the French Presidency of the Council in Paris on november 27th & 28th 2008 has highlithed the current obstacles to mobility in work-based IVT and to define the key factors to enhance both its quality and quantity. This conference will take place during the Forum of Education and Training (salon européen de l'éducation), which will focus this year in particular on European issues relative to education and training.

Four round-tables will be organized to discuss these issues :
  • Including european mobility into training pathways
  • Developping sustainable partnerships
  • ECVET : towards a recognized mobility
  • The impact of european mobility and workbased vocational training on human ressources management

The promotion and development of workbased initial vocational training on european level are aims shared by public authorities all over Europe, where companies, particularly small and medium sized entreprises have long been emphasizing the need of mobility programmes for young people in vocational training in order to enable them to aquire the necessary skills for today and for the future.
