La Ligue de l’enseignement is one of France’s oldest organisations in non-formal and formal education gathering more than 30,000 associations in 102 departmental and 22 regional federations.
Founded in 1866, it aims at guaranteeing access to education, culture, sports and leisure activities for everyone, regardless of their age, social and ethnic backgrounds. Lifelong learning is thus at the heart of its founding principles and concerns all activity sectors of la Ligue.La Ligue further promotes a humanist society, solidarity amongst citizens, sustainable development and respect for our planet.
On a European level, it is part of a number of European networks that advocate shared values amongst the European institutions and national stakeholders. These networks are: Solidar, the European Federation for Education and Culture (FEEC), the European Association for the Education of Adults (EAEA), the European Civil Society Platform on Lifelong Learning (EUCIS-LLL), the European Civic Forum (ECF) and Volunteurope.
